BIJ/NA

StadsGalerij Breda

The residency project BIJ/NA is back! In the coming weeks, three recently graduated artists will collaborate with three experienced artists. All graduates of St. Joost School of Art & Design. The starting point of this project is community of practice: a dynamic process in which different generation work together in a non-hierarchical structure.

Graduates of St. Joost School of Art & Design are colleagues in the field. What is special about this is that they always retain a shared past; in a sense, they remain one community. This community is informal, fairly close-knit, but quite invisible to outsiders. During BIJ/NA – a project organized annually since 2021 by St. Joost School of Art & Design, Stedelijk Museum Breda, and the Van Gogh AiR at the StadsGalerij in Breda – the focus is on strengthening this still-informal network and promoting knowledge exchange between different generations of visual artists.

Meet the artists

This year, Heba Bardan, Charly van der Eerden, Sam de Lange, Jitske Perdijk, Niek Opstals, and Miekie Capello are the artists of BIJ/NA.
