About us
Mission and vision

At Stedelijk Museum Breda, our mission is simple: to discover, preserve, and enrich the world of Breda.

By “the world of Breda,” we mean more than just the city itself. Breda is not only its people, mayor, or city limits. It’s part of a broader cultural landscape that includes the Baronie region, the province of Noord-Brabant, and neighboring Flanders. It’s a vibrant collection of stories, traditions, creative energy and a lively network of artists.

Breda is a city of contrasts and connections: from the legacy of the Nassaus to DJ Tiësto, from the Royal Military Academy to the St. Joost School of Art & Design, from the annual children’s carnival parades to the BredaPhoto festival. It's a place where identity and imagination come together, constantly evolving while maintaining its essence.

Stedelijk Museum Breda is the perfect place to begin exploring this world. A home base for residents and a base camp for visitors. We preserve Breda’s art and heritage for future generations, and enrich it with new stories and perspectives from the region and beyond. We do this in collaboration with local, national, and international partners.
