New book: Marga Minco, Thuisreis

To mark the Thuisreis exhibition, we have published a new book in collaboration with WBooks: Marga Minco, Thuisreis. The book was compiled and written by Jessica Voeten, daughter of Marga Minco.

The book Marga Minco, Journey Home focuses on a unique album that Minco made in 1942 for her sister Bettie, filled with drawings of memories from their childhood in Breda.

The drawings from the album are linked in the publication to later paintings that Minco made after the Second World War, in which she, as the only survivor of her family, evokes the atmosphere of the pre-war period.

Together, these images form an intimate addition to her novels and stories: a visual ‘shadow oeuvre’ that makes her personal history tangible. In addition to the visual material, the book contains the short story Thuisreis, background information about the Minco family, and a remarkable event from her time as a young journalist at the Bredase Courant.

The book is now available in bookshops and in our museum shop.
