For families

A fun day out with your family: Discover the history and art of Breda together in the Stedelijk Museum. Let your children explore the collection at their own pace with the special art treasure hunt or explore together on a (historical) walk.

For families
  • Children’s viewing puzzle

For the very youngest museum visitors, there is the Art Viewing Puzzle. Children are given a viewing card to go and look for specific fragments of images and associations in the exhibition The Collection. A few works are highlighted. The children learn to look carefully at fragments of the image and where they belong. If they find all the artworks, they can pick up a little gift at the reception.

  • Children’s viewing route

A treasure hunt throughout the entire museum. Children choose works from the exhibitions themselves and look closely at them. While searching a painting, film, statue, portrait, photo or costume, children discover the historical objects and artworks in the museum. At the reception they are given a do-it-yourself booklet with questions and assignments that go with the selected works. In this way they get to know the entire museum and become familiar with the themes of the exhibitions.

  • Nassau Walk

Join a treasure hunt in the museum! And continue the search with a walk through the centre of Breda. Philip William, the oldest son of William of Orange, was kidnapped by Philip II and held hostage at the Spanish court. Philip William secretly contacts his father and leaves behind secret codes.

This treasure hunt, with questions and assignments related to various objects in the museum and the city, can be picked up at the museum’s reception. By answering the questions, the clues that Philip William has scattered around are collected. Have you found them all? Then you can crack the code and find the secret location of Philip William.

  • Realists (families)

Realism and magical realism ... What exactly is that? Visit Charley Toorop and her colleagues with the family route Thuis bij Charley. Discover how the artists in the exhibition depict their world in their own way.

  • Collectielab (families)

Learn more about diseases such as the plague and how Breda used to deal with them in the Collection Lab. Answer all questions and collect all letters together. Did you decipher the right word? Then you can pick up a present at the reception!
