The Flight

Dio Rovers

On 12 May 1940 during World War II the residents of Breda were forced to evacuate. The flight was a nightmare for many. When Sint-Niklaas was bombed, 51 of the evacuees lost their lives. When the Breda residents returned, they found the city virtually intact. Dio Rovers, artist and co-founder of the Bredasche Kunstkring (Breda Art circle), made a monumental drawing of the Flight. Due to its sensitivity to light, this work can only be viewed on special occasions.
